Well, it is that Spanish matadors never called the best bulls “Barry” or “Simon”. The long-awaited descendant of the “Gallardo” finally appeared, and its name is “Huracan”. But this “Lambo” is not named in honor of the phenomena of nature, but in honor of the fearless bull, who participated in a bullfight in Alicante in 1879. The company is lucky to find such an inexhaustible source of heroic legends! That bull remained undefeated.
So, Huracán LP610-4. It is a great name for a car that has a great predecessor. During 40 years since the founding of the company and the presentation of the compact V10 Lamborghini sold on average 250 cars per year. But as soon as spectacular Gallardo hit the stage, Lamborghini began to sell up to 2000 cars per year. In just 10 years of production more than 14 000 Gallardo were manufactured. Lamborghini can indulge with expensive and rare hypercars, but it is sales do not allow it to sink into oblivion.
But “Gallardo” was the product of simple, innocent times. In 2003, a small “Lambo” had only one competitor the Ferrari 360 which age was four years at that time. The Huracán needed to take positions in the conflict zone of supercars. Among its competitors you will find the Ferrari 458, which is two generations younger than the first 360, and also a superb car. Another contender is the incredibly fast McLaren 4-12C. And also there is the Audi R8, which have grown from the 911 Carrera caliber to a supercar. It is now clear that the “Huracan” have a tighter competition than the “Gallardo”. It will be difficult to convince the moneybags.
In a fit of unusual modesty Lambo did not even try to create a bestseller from scratch (although, according to the latest concepts, we could expect anything from them). There are no McLarren style turbines, nor clever hybrid modules or recovery systems. Huracán remained a super car its traditional sense: a wedge-shaped piece of the exotic with a great engine.
Namely – with already familiar 5.2-liter V10. His ancestor is the engine with direct injection from the Gallardo, which in the last version (LP570) developed 570 powers. The Huracán, however, made it into the club of 600-powers: it produces 610 horses at a dizzying 8,250 rev / min. Torque – 560 Nm. A small “Lambo” falls exactly between 458 (570 hp) and 12C (625 hp). And most importantly, breaks away from this nasty R8 Plus.
Of course, it has an all-wheel drive. This is evidenced by the number 4 in the title. Letters LP mean longitudinal rear-V10, the number 610 – the number of horse powers. The Huracán is equipped with a sophisticated system of clutches, which in the normal scenario, delivers 70% of torque to the rear axle, but may play with it in the broad framework. It means that the Huracán will not allow to capture itself in the buffer, if its pilot has not enough skills: good news for those who do not drive as Stig.
As well as the news that Lamborghini finally gave her baby a good gearbox with paddle shift. Robotized E-Gear mechanics from Gallardo has never been a masterpiece of engineering.
So, the Huracán has a new seven-speed dual-clutch, which is called: Lamborghini Doppia Frizione (LDF). We suspect that it has a lot in common with the S-tronic, which Audi installed on the R8. That box is the fastest among its kind – has already proved that it can cope with 550 hp. It is easy to update it for the 610 – powers engine.
Quality automatic transmission means that there will be no mechanics will not – at least not yet. It’s a pity.
Two clutches mean a momentary switch. Lamborghini says that the Huracán gains hundred for 3.2 seconds. It is devilishly fast: seven tenths faster than the Gallardo, and precisely between the time of the 458 (3.4) and the 12C (3.1). We can say with confidence that the Huracán owners will lose the race against their friends with Ferrari and McLaren.
Unlike the McLaren 12C and the Aventador, the Huracán did not get carbon-fiber monocoque. Instead, there is a ‘hybrid chassis': space frame of carbon fiber and aluminum. Lamborghini, as you remember, loves carbon. But this car is not as light as the Sesto, which weighs less than a ton. The dry weight of the Huracán is 1422 kg.
The interior is amazing. Mix of Volkswagen buttons amid a riot of Italian design has become commonplace for Lamborghini. Most memorable – after theatrical and frankly awesome starter button under the red cap like in fighters, you get the selector under the wheel, which manages three dynamic modes. As in the Aventador, you can switch to the Strada, Sport and Corsa.
There are no words to describe its exterior. Just look at it! The Huracán professes chopped aesthetic of the Gallardo with thin blades from the Aventador, but still remains unique. It is certainly a Lambo: feed with three curtains is very similar to the Aventador Roadster, bright favorite Y-shaped motif, and huge air intakes were taken from the Sesto Elemento. But the harsh elements of the corporate design look brighter and softer. Well done. Although the Huracán is larger than the Gallardo, it still looks compact. Sinister. Beautiful.
