The history of Lamborghini starts in 1963. Ferruccio Lamborghini was the founder of the company, which was to become one of the most well-known luxury cars manufacturer. He was born in 1916, this strong-willed and impetuous man was the leading person in the foundation of the company.
He decided to manufacture a factory of high-end sports cars, Ferruccio was a very wealthy person. During the World War II, he founded the tractor factory, which he launched with energy and determination, creating a major point of reference in this industry. Even more businesses followed, and he had his fortune just at the perfect time, before his 50th birthday. In the early 60’s, he was a successful and powerful man who knew what he wanted, but when he shared his idea on building a super sports car, which will be able to compete with Ferrari, a lot of people considered him as a crazy person. Constructing this type of car was recognized as an extravagance, and something that would never bring any profit.
He started to work on this crazy project in 1962, and already in 1963 he had founded ‘ Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini’, buying a huge plot of land in Italy, Sant’Agata Bolognese, it was near Bologna, in about 25 kilometres away, to build a modern and large factory. Thanks to the experience gained during other projects, he was to set up the best facilities for his main goal: a very functional structure which was unrivalled in its field. The well-let and enormous central building was adjacent to the main office building, so that the management could easily monitor the situation around the production. This was perfect for Lamborghini, who would often go to work on the cars personally when he saw anything that wasn’t done exactly the way he wanted.
The premiere model was put out real fast, cause Lamborghini had not so much time between the time he decided to build the factory and the date of its official presentation. The event, which was chosen for this was the Turin Auto Show set on November 1963. Since he had a clear idea of what he wished, he didn’t waste time looking for the right assistants. For the engine, he turned to Giotto Bizzarrini, who was a designer of some of Ferrari’s most decent engines. To start up production and for the rest of the car, he hired promising engineers, Giampaolo Stanzani and Giampaolo Dallara. This was a considerable endeavour and there was a lack of time. However, when the 350 GTV was presented to the public, it was recognized as a real masterpiece.
1964 was a special year. The 350 GT was finally done. The inevitable and immediate offshoot of the car, of which 120 pieces were manufactured, was the 400 GT. It has a bigger engine capasity of four litres and it featured the first gearbox designed by Lamborghini himself. Based on the 2-seater body, which was later developed into the 400 GT 2+2 with two occasional seats, the 400 GT model reached the overall production figure of 273 units.
The Countach LP500 in its time was a Lamborghini’s response to the Ferrari Boxer, which was significantly faster than the Countach LP400. Initially, engineers tried to make the turbo version of the 4-liter engine, but due to problems with the cooling system the project was stopped at an early stage. There were also suggestions to the engine, but they eventually settled on an increase of the working volume up to 4754 cc by increasing the size of the cylinder and piston. 5-liter engine required the same amount of air as 4-liter, so the air intakes behind the doors have remained the same. This car combines elegance and modern forms of technology components. Maximum speed is 320 km / h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes 6 seconds.
The Lamborghini 350 GT is the first car of the world famous brand Lamborghini, which was presented to the public. This model was produced from 1964 to 1967. Only 120 pieces were released, so that today it can be found only in the museums of automotive engineering. Presentation of the 350 GT was held in 1964 at the Geneva show, a year after the show of prototype (350 GTV) at the Turin Motor Show. The Lamborghini 350 GT boasted 250 horses under the hood in the engine volume of 3.5 liters, which allowed to gain 240 miles per hour. The very design of the engine was a revolution at the time. This car had a V-shaped structure made of 12 cylinders, with each cylinder had 4 valves. Such a successful design was in production for 40 years, gaining power and volume though.
Without dwelling on the success achieved with the 350 GT, Ferruccio Lamborghini creates Lamborghini 400 GT which was destined to continue the job. The first presentation of the Lamborghini 400 GT was held in 1966 at the Geneva Motor Show, where it was prepared for a very warm welcome. Meaningful change starts with the configuration of the car – when the 350 GT was a double, Lamborghini 400 GT could carry four people. Aluminum materials have been replaced by steel. This move increased the weight of the new Lamborghini 400 GT by 180 kg in comparison with its predecessor, which caused the need of engine boosting. Its volume increased to 3929 cm3. It raised the output to 320 hp and allowed the Lamborghini 400 GT to develop a speed of up to 250 km / h. The Lamborghini 400 GT production was carried out in the period from 1966 to 1969. During this time 247 cars were released.
The Lamborghini Aventador is exclusive “purebred” supercar powered by Lamborghini, which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1, 2011. The model replaced the legendary Lamborghini Murcielago. Supercar looks like the sensational Reventon released in very limited quantities. According to the tradition of the brand, the model has a name of the famous bull Aventador. This model has received infotainment system MMI, 3D navigation, LCD monitors and many other options. This car has a V-shaped, 12-cylinder power unit with the volume of 6.5 liters. The engine is capable to produce an impressive 700 horsepower and 690 lb-ft. Up to 100 km / h the Aventador “shoots” in record time – 2.9 sec. The Aventador was a huge step forward in terms of design and technology, it is the result of an entirely new project, but at the same time the Aventador hasn’t renounced the classical ideals of Lamborghini.
The Lamborghini Diablo is a legendary Italian supercar model, which replaced the outdated Lamborghini Countach. It has a new engine with volume of 5.7 liters and 492 hp, and a new transmission. The maximum speed is 323 km / h. The new version of the Diablo – «VT» was presented in 1994. It has a new engine which capacity was increased to 520 horsepower. It was the fastest car of its time. It was equipped with the newest exhaust system. The weight of carbon fiber and aluminum alloy body was only 1450 pounds. The last Lamborghini Diablo was released in 2000. Its design was an example of perfection, the geometry of the body has been further upgraded and the V12 engine has reached a total volume of 6 liters.
The Lamborghini Espada was produced by Lamborghini from 1968 to 1978. The name of the car is traditionally associated with fighting bulls: “espada” in Spanish means “sword”, in this case the sword used by torero during a bullfight. The car’s design was developed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The Lamborghini Espada transmission consisted of a dry clutch, five-speed gearbox and final drive with differential. The suspension was made in the spirit of sports traditions of the time – front and rear wishbones with stabilizer bars on each axis. There is quite enough of space in the cabin for four adults thanks to the car’s base of 2650 mm. The car was impressive with its size, or rather its ratio – with a length of 4740 mm and a width of 1860 mm height was only 1185 mm. It was the most successful model of the company at that time.
The Lamborghini Gallardo is a legendary supercar of the Italian company Lamborghini. “Gallardo” translated from Spanish as “brave”, “courageous.” This car is manufactured by Lamborghini since 2003. Presentation of the car took place at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2003. A restyled version of the model appeared in 2008. Changes have affected the design of the exterior: the style of the front and rear optics has been changed. The second update was conducted in 2012. It has an upgraded engine which has become more productive. The model was offered in LP560-4 modification which is equipped with 5.2-liter V10, 560 hp. The Lamborghini Gallardo is the most common sports car of the entire line of Lamborghini. In 2014 the “Gallardo” was replaced by its successor Lamborghini Huracan.
The Lamborghini Huracan was called to replace the Lamborghini Gallardo. The car was named after the new bull named Huracan, who fought in the bullfight in the XIX century. By the way, Huracan is the Mayan Indians god of wind. Lamborghini Huracan is implemented on a modular platform MSS (Modular Sportcar System), which has been developed in the Audi. This design will also include the basis for the next-generation Audi R8. The Lamborghini Huracan engine is a modified V10 with volume of 5.2 liter that meets environmental standards Euro 6. There are three modes of transportation, each of which changes the settings of the chassis, suspension and engine performance. Hurricane torque of 560 Nm at 4 wheels correctly distributes by the 7-step “robot” with double clutch. Carbon-ceramic brakes will provide the perfect consistency with the driver and show excellent work. As stated by the company, the supercar Huracan provides tremendous opportunities of individualization. This applies to all kinds of modifications to the exterior, body colors and trim options.
The Lamborghini Islero is an improved version of the 400GT .It was equipped with the chassis almost identical to the 400GT but a bit shorter and lighter. This car has a fundamentally new body. 2-door saloon’s size has increased thanks to the increasing the space for the rear seats. Inside was still plenty of room for four. Compared to its predecessor, the exterior differed with rough and angular forms, as well as retractable headlights. The most obvious external changes included enlarged air intake, air vent behind the left windows, electrically heated up rear window. In the Islero basic equipment were added magnesium alloy wheels, Campagnolo design, fog lamps on the front spoiler and air conditioning. The car had a great speed and dynamic characteristics that allowed it to compete with the best models in this class. The top speed was 265 km / h. Acceleration from 0 – 100 km / h in 6.2 seconds.
The Lamborghini Jalpa is the Gallrado’s spiritual predecessor. These cars were offered with an enormous level of performance compared to their competitors. Awesome body style of Marcello Gandini, one of the rarest engines – mounted longitudinally high-capacity V12. In general, this car did not leave anyone indifferent. Despite the fact that the Jalpa was not so popular, its specifications were very high. The Jalpa with a 3.5-liter V8 producing 255 hp with a torque of 7,000 rev / min is a manageable car, which was intended to travel for short distances. The car’s name was taken from a famous breed of fighting bulls. This vehicle is very easy to drive even in the city traffic. This model remained one of the most successful Lamborghini to the day, when its production was stopped in July 1988.
The Lamborghini Jarama is a sports car that was produced by Lamborghini from1970 to 1976. The car was named after the region in Spain where the bullfights took place, and not because of the track near Madrid, which hosted the Formula 1 race. The car’s body was designed by Marcello Gandini (Bertone design house). This car was built on shortened chassis of the Lamborghini Espada. The car was produced in two versions: Jarama 400 GT (Lamborghini V12 engine with 350 hp), Jarama 400 GTS with the upgraded to 365 hp engine. The Lamborghini Jarama GT top speed was amazing 245 km / h. But the Lamborghini Jarama GTS was even faster: the maximum speed reached 260 km / h. The updated versions become available with power steering and automatic transmission.
The Lamborghini Miura was developed by Gianpaolo Dallara , his assistant Stantsani and the head of the research center Robert Wallace. The model was presented in 1965 at the Turin Motor Show. The Miura had a solid frame and had excellent stability at high speed. It has an engine power of 370 hp and maximum speed of 282 km / h. The experience of creating super-powerful “Jota” was used in the car. The Miura-SV was shown in 1971 in Geneva. An interesting solution was the presence of the oil sump for the engine and transmission. The engine produced 385 hp what provided a top speed of 289 km / h. In 2006 (the 40th anniversary of the model) Italian company issued a concept car Lamborghini Miura in a retro style, which was shown to public at the auto show in Los Angeles.
The Lamborghini Murcielago is a flagship of the Lamborghini named after a famous fighting bull. Low wedge-shaped silhouette recalls that this sports car has a famous ancestor. Its body design is fitted with adjustable spoiler and retractable side air intakes designed under the auspices of Audi. The engine is also completely new. This V12 with volume of 6.2 liters has an outstanding 580 hp. The 6-speed manual gearbox was used for the first time in Lamborghini’s history (all previous models were established 5-speed manual transmission). The torque is transmitted through the viscous coupling to all four 18-inch wheels (Murcielago has an all-wheel drive!). This car accelerates to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds and a maximum “ceiling” is 320 km / h. The interior is amazing. Leather seats, navigation systems that include a built-in CD-changer. This car is a significant part of the whole brand’s history.
The Lamborghini Silhouette was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1976. In order to minimize development costs and production problems, the Silhouette received many components from the Urraco. Capacity of 8-cylinder engine allowed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.9 seconds, maximum speed reached 250 km / h. The body has been designed in the famous studio Bertone. As a result, there was a car with a body Targa (Type Convertible rigid non-removable seats behind the arc). The design was a combination of elegance and technological excellence, with a 50/50 weight distribution. The interior was not significantly different from the interior of the precursor. Depending on the order, it could be covered with a skin and tissue. Debuting at the Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini Silhouette instantly succeeded. This car is a result of experience, powerful, stylish, elegant vehicle with excellent features which has acquired the status of exclusivity.
In 1970, the company headed by the Lamborghini Ferruccio decides to release a “people’s car”. Thus came to light the four-seater coupe Urraco P250 with a V8 engine capacity of 2.5 liters. Maximum speed was 220 km / h. Although the debut took place at the Motor Show in Turin in 1970, the car was not available for buyers until 1973. The design of the model was developed by Marcello Gandini. The Urraco P200 was produced in 1974 exclusively for the Italian market. The main difference from previous versions was reduced to 2 liters engine capacity of 182 hp. The P200’s appearance remained the same as in the P250, but the interior was redesigned. Today the Urraco is a part of the Lamborghini’s history. It is noteworthy that the Urraco served as the basis for development of the new Lamborghini Silhouette and the Jalpa .
The Lamborgini Veneno is a real masterpiece, it’s a benefit of high-tech and unique style. The car’s body is completely made of carbon fiber and has a plurality of air intakes. This makes this model an original futuristic concept car, which will take its rightful place among all the other cars of the future. An important role of freedom and space should also be noted as binding elements in development of this car. The driver can feel comfortable in the salon, where each element has a unique form and purpose, being fully consistent with the corporate image of the company products. The company decided to move away from traditional recent decisions of hybrids and yet try to install classic petrol unit. Engine capacity L539 of this development is 6.5 liters, which is enough to generate power of 750 horsepower. This car is the best automotive industry can do for now.
